26th June, Friday @ Trickster: STIG NOISE SOUND SYSTEM (uk) + THE PATTERN THEORY (UK/ Berlin) + SUPPORT (USA/Berlin)

"We are Stig Noise Soundsystem! a collective of musically active people harbouring some painstakingly aquired skillsss in making our own kind of Experimental Mariachi Noise Lounge Lizard Showtuney music, both Brutal(and/or) subtle in our approach to delivering live joyful dancing noise.

Currently when playing live we use vinyl decks, a theremin, 1 big drum kit, 1 little drum kit, some cheep guitars, Trumpets, an old casio keyboard , an old hawaiian lap steel, some beats, BaSs! , a Uke, some dubplates, an old marching drum, Big Muffs no:184 + 185 (l'il chief), headphones used like microphones, a Theramin, a tin whistle, a shit mixer, a boss DD1, some triggers of field recordings and a Melodica...

When its possible we travel with a ridiculously phat old sound system built and modified by members of our collective since around 1995... it is now painted turquoise and is usually arranged as a some kind of fearsome totompole style bass and stealth ommiting structure at our shows... hense the Soundsystem in the name.

Stig Noise all started around 1999, We were awful for years and years and years and years ... now having played hundreds of shows in Uk/Europe we finally make music we quite like and think is unique. Joyful, noisey, dancing music."

Having played an aweful lot of shows last year, with bands like deerhoof, dj scotch egg, gay against you, action beat, jason forrest, duracell, trencher and so on, they come now for one show to berlin. after this show, you can only catch them at fusion festival in germany this time.

And here is what other people thought about it:

"Their noise is remarkable as it is original:crazy melodies played at odd tempos with brass instruments held in the hands of what apeare to be lunatics.Stig are the kind of band that the word cult was invented for. Weird, wonderful and Hardcore".Kerrang.

"Crazy noise, granted, but nothing quite prepares for the flamenco-featuring random meandering, enthusiastically ploughing through unhinged rhythms, bewildering Henry Mancini-isms and Mclusky spikiness" Drowned In Sound

"...Jesus Christ STIG is some fucked up shit... this is all over the place chaos!!! Samples, beats, brass, Hawaiian guitars, heavy guitars, random noise and tons of other shit I cant describe!! The pace is constantly changing ...crazy, crazy shit. Definitely very punk etho's in its approach: very free and experimental and quite obviously not giving a fuck what people think. At times theres a slow reggae feel, then its kind of big band music, then its totally fucked up noise, then even more fucked up noise, then its like lounge music... you just gotta hear this because I cant describe this properly. nofrontteeth.co.uk

Support comes from The Pattern Theory, a band having decided lately to move from leeds to berlin. they started to make music together in 2006 and have meanwhile supported bands such as icy demons or damo suzuki from can.

quotes:

"(the pattern theory)... interweave individual threads of guitar, bass and drums which fit together into something that's part melody, part algorhythm....like Battles, but much more organic." MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK

"With elements of post, math and even dance-tinged rock in their repertoire, this band are definitely walking the walk outside of the regulation box." DROWNED IN SOUND

"Their music is just the kind of 'experimental' music that you always hope for - ambient and atypical, but still tuneful and very listenable." LEEDS MUSIC SCENE

The night will be opened up be a new project from berlin, named auf. members are known from other bands, the head was once involved in the experimental  cupboard beat formation called gitarre and schrank. stay curious!

A really fantastic line-up that I would go myself to and see, even had I not put it myself on. so don't miss!

And all you have to pay is a donation, which is ridiculous. there is a back yard as well where you can chill out if you had too much of an overdose of good music. drinks are cheap too. music between the bands and after will be provided also.

LOCATION:

Trickster, Oberbaumstrasse 11, U-Schlesisches Tor

START:

21h

ENTRY:

Donation

...still the coolest club in town. trashed, but fine music taste. we were really glad to have helped their reputation a bit more - but nearly being a bit too loud and threatening the existence of the place... but all went well.

'Martin Tetzlaff ist schon längst kein unbekanntes Gesicht mehr. Seit fast 10 Jahren, in denen er in den Berliner Indiebands „Paul is dead“, „Software“ und „Phonetic“ spielte und diese mitprägte, kennt man ihn schon. Es sind aber seine eigenen Songs, die ihn auszeichnen. Drei EP’s und...Weiterlesen
